The start of something new!

I picked up a pen to learn to sketch in October 2014. Turns out, it's SUPER fun!! I finished my first sketchbook in November and am working on #2 now. Here's a dump of some sketches from the first two months!

This is the first page of my second sketchbook ever! Did this one while watching a Gilmore Girls marathon.

Spent a few hours sketching every detail I could see in the kitchen...my first try at Tommy Kane's style. I love his stuff! Mega-proud of myself here!

Just needed a subject...did this in the afternoon before my session. Some things went wrong, so I had to make some things up...but hopefully you can't tell!

Colored in some quick Beckett-doodle sketches. I penciled them in first...he moves way too quickly for me to attempt it in ink. I think some poses actually look like him!

First time sketching a car. Tried really hard to get the hatching right. I had to check out some Paul Heaston references to get parts to look right. He's amazing! This sketch looks better in the picture (and better when held at a distance), but still quite proud.

Watercolors are still really new to me. I learned some cool techniques for mixing colors, especially for doing leaves where I want similar shades of green that work together. I was very pleased with how realistic the colors turned out.

Just drawing random things to practice daily. First time drawing something white and really having to focus on the shadows. Not sure if I did it right, but I'm happy with how it looks!

Quick hatching exercise. I went on to draw four more after this with different hatches, but I still think this turned out the best.

Really trying to get the crosshatching right here. I was confused by all the curves of the water gun and not sure which way to draw the lines. Not that happy with the result, but it looks fine from a distance.

First crosshatching drawing ever! I learned this from Paul Heaston and am so proud of it. I love his clean lines. I've tried other ways of hatching since and this is still my favorite.

Last day at work and my first on location drawing! I got to work 30 minutes early to pencil this in. I drew in a few details after I got home (thanks to google) and laid down some color.

Another early drawing...the neighbor's house as seen from my window. First attempt drawing a house from real life. No idea how to draw trees!

This was from my mom's birthday when I picked up cake from Anderson's bakery and a few of her favorite almond croissants.

This was the first page of my first sketchbook. It took me forever because I didn't want to mess up and I drew off a photo, which I now know is harder and not nearly as much fun as drawing from life. I was just so happy to be done with it.
